Turning Thirty - New Show and iTunes

As you may have read earlier here, in twenty-ten, I have resolved to take Turning Thirty, my musical/rock opera about having cancer to the next step - what's known in the musical world as a workshop. Well, as planning for that continues, I'm happy to announce two other movements on the Turning Thirty front:

1) The Turning Thirty - Live Debut recording is now available on iTunes (and CDBaby, Amazon, Napster, Rhapsody, and generally everywhere CDBaby can distribute it for me); and

2) We will be performing the show for the fourth time at the beautiful Lakeview Center in Dawsonville, GA on May 3rd. More details to come.

May 2, 2009 - Paideia School Theater, Atlanta, GA

October 9, 2009 - American Cancer Society Center Theater, Atlanta, GA

It does seem that October and May are good months for Turning Thirty...

Fun at the Red Light Cafe

Many thanks to everyone who came out to the show at the Red Light Cafe on Saturday the 9th. What a terrific crowd! All of us in Urban Blue had a blast. It was great to have two full hours to fill up with music. A special thanks to Aree and Katie, my young terrific friends in the crazy hats, for helping so much with the email list and CDs. Thanks to everyone who brought out new friends as well.

Many thanks to Richard Powers for taking such great photos of the show, too. That's his handiwork I've included here, and see more of his photos from the show below.

Also, thanks to the magic of handheld digital recorders, specifically the one belonging to bassist Lee Nunn, we got a simple recording of the show. It was tough to choose which song to share, but in the end I had to go with a cover by English singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl that features Kristi Budd on vocals and Lee Hansen on the trumpet.

Twenty Ten

Resolutions:

I will start referring to the year starting with "twenty" instead of "two thousand."

I will workshop Turning Thirty this year with a professional director and music director.

I will release a new album this year.

I will have a show this Saturday with Urban Blue, from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Red Light Cafe in Atlanta.

In general, I intend to amp it up this year, or turn my amp up to 11, if you will.
